It has been announced that Ryosuke Yamada of the popular group " Hey! Say! JUMP " will star in the Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV drama series "Ichijigen no Sashiki" (Sundays at 10:30 PM), which will begin airing in July.
The original work is the novel of the same name by Ryunosuke Matsushita, which won the 2025 Bunko Grand Prix in Takarajimasha's "This Mystery is Amazing!" competition.
Nanase Yu, a graduate student studying genetics played by Yamada, cannot forget his stepsister Shiyo, who went missing in a torrential downpour, and believes she is still alive. One day, his mentor, Professor Iwamizaki, asks him to perform DNA testing on 200-year-old human remains unearthed at Lake Rupukund in India, and he discovers that the DNA of the remains is a 100% match that of his missing stepsister Shiyo. The DNA match, the mysterious deaths of those involved, the stolen remains, the vanished memories of the past... everything begins to connect in a single thread.
Yamada commented, "I turned 33 this year, and when I read the script, I felt a sense of self-exploration, wondering, 'What would happen if Ryosuke Yamada, who has met many different people and absorbed many different things throughout his life, were to play Nanase Yu?' That's why I decided to accept the offer. I feel that this drama brings together people with various forms of love, each acting according to their own motives, and I think there are parts of it that you can't understand unless you've had various experiences up to this point, so I'm glad that I can take on this role at this age, after having gone through these life experiences."
Addressing viewers, he said, "This is a human mystery drama, and my character gets caught up in the events, so I want to go to the set without being too nervous and act as if everything is happening realistically on set. I hope that viewers will follow the drama from Yu's perspective and try to uncover the truth!"
