The second episode of the drama series "Galaxy Vote" (Kansai TV/Fuji TV, Mondays at 10 PM), starring actress Haru Kuroki, aired on April 27th. The words that Toshiko Kamoi (played by Hana Kino) had previously said to Akari Tsukioka (played by Kayo Noro) shocked viewers.
◇The following contains spoilers.
"Ten years ago, I went through a lot of things. I thought I had no choice but to die."
Akari confided in Mari (Kuroki) about her past attempt to jump off the roof of a building. At that moment, it was Kamoi Toshiko (Kinohana), the owner of "Snack Toshiko," who rushed over, clung to Akari from behind, and stopped her from committing suicide.
Akari was brought back to her senses and regained her composure when Toshiko suddenly asked, "Aren't you hungry?" Toshiko invited Akari to the shop and treated her to jam sandwiches and egg sandwiches, comforting her by saying, "You know, sometimes you crave sweet and salty things in life. Sometimes you just end up eating one or the other all the time."
Amidst this, Akari murmured, "I don't know. What am I living for?" Toshiko pondered for a moment and then asked Akari, "...Just in case?" Then she said, "There might be one, right? You're being naive again. There might not be, but there might be," and then, smiling again, she handed Akari a jam sandwich and said, "Just in case."
Akari, her hands trembling, accepted the jam sandwich, and the moment she took a bite, tears began to flow uncontrollably. Toshiko casually handed her a tissue and offered a comforting word: "Why don't you work for us? We're really short-handed."
Akari recounted her encounter with Toshiko to Mari, and then revealed what had happened to Toshiko since then.
On social media, viewers were excited, saying things like, "Episode 2 was filled with words that were like a 'light'," "I was shocked by the 'just in case' line. There were so many highlights that I didn't want to miss a single moment, and I felt kindness throughout, which filled my heart," "I really like the choice of words," "Just in case...that's so good," and "If I ever find myself wondering 'What am I living for?', I want to tell myself, 'Just in case, just in case. Something good might happen.'"
The drama is an "election entertainment" story in which Mari Hoshino (played by Kuroki) recruits Akari Tsukioka, a bar owner with no political experience, to be her election strategist, and together they take on the Tokyo gubernatorial election.
