According to the box office rankings for June 26-28 (compiled by Kogyo Tsushinsha), released on June 29, Antoine Fuqua's "Michael," a film about the legend of "King of Pop" Michael Jackson, took the top spot for the third consecutive week. Over the three-day weekend, it attracted approximately 414,000 viewers and grossed approximately 667 million yen. Cumulatively, it has attracted over 2.45 million viewers and grossed over 3.9 billion yen.
In the new releases, "Supergirl" (directed by Craig Gillespie), the first film in the new DC Universe depicting the battles of Kara Zor-El, Superman/Clark Kent's cousin, ranked second. In the three days since its release on June 26th, it recorded approximately 115,000 viewers and box office revenue of approximately 188 million yen. "Sgt. Frog," the new animated film based on the popular manga by Mine Yoshizaki, "Sgt. Sgt. Frog Revival and Immediately In danger of Earth's destruction!" (directed by Yuichi Fukuda), came in fourth, and "Anpanman: Pantan and the Promised Star," the latest theatrical film in the popular anime "Anpanman," started at fifth place.
"Black Prison" (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa), which debuted at number 2 the previous week, came in at number 3, recording approximately 108,000 viewers and 152 million yen in box office revenue over the three-day weekend. Cumulatively, it has attracted 440,000 viewers and grossed over 600 million yen.
"Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" (directed by Jon Favreau), ranked 6th, has surpassed 1.81 million cumulative viewers and 3 billion yen in box office revenue. "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" (directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic), ranked 8th, has surpassed 5.64 million cumulative viewers and 7.7 billion yen in box office revenue, ranking in the top 100 of the all-time box office revenue rankings.
