The 13th episode of the NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）" (NHK General, Sundays at 8pm, etc.), starring actor Taiga Nakano, aired on April 5th, and a scene in which Chika, played by Riho Yoshioka, is called a "fox woman" drew a reaction from viewers.
"BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）" is the 65th Taiga drama. With Toyotomi Hidenaga (Koichiro) as the protagonist, it depicts the miraculous feat of unifying Japan together with his older brother Hideyoshi (Tokichiro) through their strong bond, a success story of dreams and hopes.
In episode 13, under Nobunaga's (Shun Oguri) orders, Koichiro (Nakano) is to marry Kei, the daughter of Morinari (Tetsushi Tanaka).
Fujikichiro (Sosuke Ikematsu) is pleased, but Kei has a bad reputation and, for a certain reason, hates the Oda family. Koichiro accepts Kei, but Nene (Minami Hamabe), who knows about the bad rumors, calls Kei a "fox woman"...and the story unfolds from there.
It was recently announced that Yoshioka, who plays Kei, will be reprising her role as "Donkitsune" for the first time in about four years in Nissin Foods' new TV commercial for "Donbei," titled "Donkitsune Returns." As a result, viewers have been reacting in droves on social media. Comments include: "She's definitely a female fox, Donkitsune," "Is Donkitsune's return timed to coincide with the female fox?", "What a coincidence to air a commercial at the same time as Donkitsune's return. I can't believe NHK is airing a commercial," "Nene calls Kei a 'female fox,' she must have seen the Donbei commercial," and "This timing for her return to the commercial is a bit too deliberate."
In that episode, as Koichiro was leaving for battle, he witnessed Kei meeting with "another man," just as the "bad rumors" had predicted. Comments included: "Hey... Your husband is going to war!?", "Wow... Your wife is with another man before you go to battle... That's rough," "Is the scriptwriter a demon? Showing that on the day of departure?", "What a fox woman!!", and "Don Kitsune is a femme fatale, after all."
