The editorial department of Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+" has established a new manga award, the "Shonen Jump+ One Scene Manga Award," and began accepting submissions on February 26th. Regardless of genre or page length, they are looking for one-shot stories that "tell the whole story in one situation without changing location." Despite the restriction that "the location must not change," this manga award is unique in that if a work has ingenious characters and situations that make it interesting, it has a chance of winning.
Angyaman , the author of " Red Cat Ramen, " will serve as a special judge. Angyaman commented, "Scene changes in manga are an essential technique for expression, but this award is perfect for short stories that take place in a single scene... a locked room, an interrogation room, a studio apartment, a closet, or even the inside of a car... settings and scenarios that can only be achieved in a limited space, and relationships between characters that reveal why they are there, what they do there, and what they talk about... there's no need to think too hard about it! We're looking forward to a wide variety of works, from surprising one-off ideas to slice-of-life stories!"
The grand prize winner will receive 1 million yen, the runner-up will receive 500,000 yen, and their work will be published in "Shonen Jump +." The judges' special award will receive 300,000 yen, the honorable mention will receive 100,000 yen, and the promising work will receive 10,000 yen. Applications will be accepted through the manga submission and publishing service "Jump Rookie!", as well as via an online submission form and by mail. The application deadline is June 7th. The results will be announced around September or October.
