The ukiyo-e visuals for the anime "Baki-dou," based on the fourth installment of Itagaki Keisuke's fighting manga "Baki," have been released. The visuals were created by KOJIMAN, an artist from Sapporo, Hokkaido, and depict the battle between Baki Hanma and Musashi, based on the ukiyo-e print "Kyushu Kishiyanagi Island: Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kishiyanagi Battle," by Utagawa Yoshitora, which depicts the battle between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro on Ganryu Island.
The visual depicts Baki, clad in red fighting spirit, leaping into the air and about to deliver a kick, while Musashi, clad in blue fighting spirit, intercepts him with two swords, and in the crowd in the background, we can see "those characters" who are engaged in a heated battle with Baki and Musashi. The new "Battle of Ganryu Island" between Baki, the "strongest underground arena champion," and Musashi, the "strongest symbol," has been brought to life through the dynamic ukiyo-e art.
It was also announced that a special program, "Baki-Dou Anime Pre-release Special Program: The Greatest Behind-the-Scenes Stories Finally Revealed!" will be broadcast from 8:00 PM on February 20th. Shimazaki Nobunaga, who voices Baki, and Uchida Naoya, who voices Musashi, will appear and reveal the "greatest behind-the-scenes stories."
"Baki-Dou" is a manga serialized in "Weekly Shonen Champion" (Akita Shoten) from 2014 to 2018. With the end of the "strongest father-son quarrel on earth," Baki and other veteran fighters are overcome with unbearable boredom. Meanwhile, 364 meters below Tokyo Skytree, a plan to bring the master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi back to life in the present day is underway. The story depicts the fierce battle between Baki and his friends and Miyamoto Musashi, who is resurrected using cloning technology and spiritualism. The anime will be available worldwide exclusively on Netflix from February 26th.
