It was announced on February 13th that actor Ryusei Yokohama will be appearing as a guest voice actor in "Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway," the 29th film in the popular anime series "Detective Conan," based on the manga by Gosho Aoyama. This will be Yokohama's first time trying his hand at voice acting. He will play Omae Kazuaki, an engineer at an automobile manufacturer and developer of the latest model of the Angel police motorcycle, equipped with a cutting-edge driving assistance system. Yokohama commented, "As a Japanese person, I am proud of the booming Japanese anime industry, and Conan is a series that has been loved for many generations, so I was honored to be able to take on this challenge."
Yokohama, who observed the dubbing of a TV anime, commented, "While we use our whole bodies to express ourselves, voice actors express themselves using only their voices. I was overwhelmed and impressed by the voice actors who were able to express depth and three-dimensionality using only their voices within a set image."
After the dubbing, wanting to achieve even greater perfection, she asked to re-record, and for the second time, she memorized all of her lines in order to concentrate on her acting. "When I thought about what I could do, I realized that as a new voice actor, the first thing I needed to do was to 'memorize my lines.' I thought that I wouldn't even be able to get to the starting line unless I started from there," she said as she took on the challenge of recording.
In response to Yokohama's enthusiasm, Takayama Minami, who plays Conan, attended the dubbing session and gave him direct instruction. Yokohama reflected, "It was extremely difficult, but Takayama Minami was present during the recording and gave me advice, so I'm really grateful." He also expressed his satisfaction, saying, "I think I did everything I could!"
"Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway" is set in Yokohama, where Conan and his friends are visiting the Kanagawa Motorcycle Festival, a motorcycle festival, when a mysterious, out-of-control "black motorcycle" suddenly appears in front of them. Chasing it is Hagiwara Chihaya, a police motorcycle officer from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Mobile Unit, who Ran once saw as the "Goddess of Wind." Later, at the festival site, a police motorcycle equipped with the latest technology, "Angel," is unveiled. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, a "black motorcycle (Lucifer)" goes out of control. The film will be released on April 10th.
"Detective Conan" is a manga that depicts Conan Edogawa solving difficult cases one after another, and began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) in 1994. The total number of comics published has exceeded 270 million copies. The TV anime has been broadcast since 1996, and the first movie, "Detective Conan: The Time Bombed Skyscraper," was released in 1997.
The 28th movie in the series, "Detective Conan: Afterimage of the One-Eyed," released in 2025, grossed approximately 14.6 billion yen, surpassing the 10 billion yen mark for the third consecutive year, and setting a new record for the first time for a Japanese film by attracting an audience of over 10 million people for the second consecutive year.
