Comedian Yuriyan Retriever appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on February 9th. Yuriyan, who will be relocating to Los Angeles at the end of 2024, spoke about the major changes in her living environment.
When asked why she decided to move, Yuriyan said, "I wanted to become a Hollywood star, so I wanted to go to America." She was torn between New York and Los Angeles, but chose Los Angeles, home to Hollywood, because she loves movies.
When asked by Tetsuko, "Were you not worried about money?", she replied, "I was wondering what would happen since the dollar was so high. But I tried not to think too much about it. I just wanted to do my best so that I wouldn't have to worry about money."
He appeared on a comedy live show that anyone could attend, and performed his material in English. "I paid $5 to do a five-minute skit, but the English is difficult, so I'm not sure if people aren't laughing because I'm not funny, or because they can't understand my English," he confessed.
Although he had the desire to start from scratch as a comedian, everything was new to him. "I have friends here, but I feel homesick..." he confessed. He also struggled to find what he wanted at the supermarket, saying, "I don't know if it's food or cleaning supplies. If I don't know, I should just ask, 'What is that?' but I end up pretending to know."
