The TBS Sunday Theatre "Reboot" (Sundays at 9pm) starring actor Ryohei Suzuki has aired up to episode 3, and the mysteries that have been unfolding have sparked a flurry of speculation on social media, but we'd like to summarise the mysteries that have emerged so far.
◇Gido is alive! Is there a possibility of a reboot for Hayase Riku?
In the third episode (aired on February 1st), Gido's wife Mayu (Kuroki Meisa) points out, "You're Hayase Riku, right?" She then reveals that she received a phone call from Gido, saying, "That wasn't you, it was the real Gido."
In the same scene in episode 3 where the investigation status is being confirmed, it is revealed that there was a tip-off that "a man who looks exactly like Hayase Riku is working as a live-in employee at a transportation company in Kisarazu City." It is possible that Riku has been rebooted into Gido, and that Gido has been rebooted into Riku...
◇Conviction grows that Ichika is Natsumi...but is this a huge misdirect?
Since the first episode aired, speculation has spread that Ichika (Erika Toda), who is always worried about Riku and his family, is a reboot of Natsumi (Sayaka Yamaguchi), who is believed to be deceased. In episode 3, Riku declared, "I'm devoted to Natsumi. I can't imagine being with another woman," and Ichika's slightly happy expression became a hot topic.
On the other hand, the presence of Ichika's younger sister, Ayaka (Yuki Yoda), is a major factor in denying the "Ichika = Natsumi reboot theory." Ichika regularly visits Ayaka, who is hospitalized for a long time due to an incurable disease, and devotes herself to supporting her. Some say that if her sister was a different person, Ayaka would surely notice, and that there was no need for her support in the first place.
While there is growing "certainty" that "Natsumi is probably Ichika" and "I guess Natsumi is being rebooted into Ichika after all," there are also growing voices of doubt, with people saying, "The hints are too blatant, so I hope it's a huge misdirection," and "This time too, it seemed very likely that Ichika = Natsumi is being rebooted, but I don't think it's that simple."
◇Inspector Masachika Makita and the newly introduced name "Yaichi Makita"
One character whose identity is still unclear is the inspector Makita Masachika, played by Ito Hideaki. He seems to be particularly suspicious of Gido, and in episode 3, Goroku (Kitamura Yukiya), the head of the underground organization, goes to the House of Representatives First Members' Building. There is a scene where he enters the room of a member of parliament named Makita Yaichi.
The relationship between Inspector Makita Masachika and Councilman Makita Yaichi has not been revealed. Furthermore, since it has been revealed that Gido is alive, some have speculated that "Gido might be Inspector Makita," and "I feel like the real Gido has been rebooted as Makita, in order to catch something bigger than Goroku."
Regarding Makita Yaichi, comments such as "Who is Makita Yaichi...? Inspector Makita's father?", "Does that mean Goroku, who Masachika is suspicious of, is connected to my father?", and "Maybe he's the hidden boss" were posted, suggesting that even bigger names are about to appear.
◇Is "Detective Tsuda" still alive? There are mysteries surrounding "Fuyubashi" Nagase Ren.
In addition, Kaieda (played by Sakamuki Yoshi), who was deemed to have embezzled 1 billion yen in episode 3 and was thought to have been "eliminated," has disappeared from the character relationship chart on the official website, while Ando (played by Tsuda Atsuhiro), who was thought to have been "immediately eliminated" in episode 1, remains on the character relationship chart.
Fuyuhashi (Nagase Ren), a subordinate of Goroku, also makes lines showing concern for Natsumi, saying, "It really wasn't Gido, was it? It was Natsumi who did it," and "Natsumi will be happy that the culprit has been caught." These lines became a hot topic, with people saying, "It felt a little meaningful," and "It's strange that he only gets emotional when he thinks of Natsumi."
The story is entering the middle part, but the preview for episode 4 announces that "The 10 billion yen robbery has broken out!" and includes a scene where Riku, with a gun pointed at him, comes out saying, "I'm not Gido! I'm Hayase Riku!" It's exciting to see what new developments await.
