It has been announced that the 10th installment of the popular historical drama series "Muyōan Inkyo Shugyō" (BS Asahi), starring actor Yutaka Mizutani, will air on September 22nd. The familiar regular cast members, including Ittoku Kishibe and Rei Dan, will also be reprising their roles.
"Muyōan Inkyo Shugyō" is a thrilling historical drama based on a short historical novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Yasuhisa Ebisawa, depicting the protagonist, Hanbei Hyuga, and others fighting against rampant evil. Mizutani plays Hanbei, the protagonist who was once a high-ranking samurai of the Tokugawa family but grew tired of his colleagues who only cared about advancement and now lives in retirement at "Muyōan." Kishibe plays Hikonosuke Katsutani, Hanbei's attendant who has looked after him for many years, and Dan plays his wife, Natsu.
Furthermore, Ryosei Tayama will continue to appear as Tobei, a former member of the Imperial Secretariat who helps Hanbei fight his evil deeds; Shinobu Nakayama will play Osaki, the proprietress of Hanbei's favorite restaurant; Taketo Tanaka will play Shintaro Hyuga, Hanbei's son and inspector; Yoshie Ichige will play Iku, Natsu's mother; Jun Hashizume will play her father, Seishiro; Takaaki Enoki will play Heizo Hasegawa, the head of the Arson and Robbery Investigation Unit who is also an understanding friend of Hanbei; and Tetta Sugimoto will play Matsudaira Sadanobu, a senior councilor who highly regards Hanbei.
The events depicted in this story include episodes that are still relevant today, such as what we would now call "land fraud," hoarding and reselling, and soaring prices. Tsutaya Juzaburo, who gained prominence as the protagonist of last year's NHK historical drama " UNBOUND, " also becomes involved in the story.
Guest appearances include Yu Tokui as Chūemon Hagiya, the owner of a hagiya shop who colludes with those in power to buy up land; Kenjiro Nashimoto as Yasugoro Tajima, Hanbei's old friend; Toru Kayama as Namiki, the magistrate of Kitamachi who was once Hanbei's fellow student; and Jin Katagiri as Tsutaya Juzaburo , the owner of Kōshodō bookstore.
Mizutani commented, "When 'Muyōan' started 10 years ago, the number of period dramas was decreasing. But recently, I have the impression that the number of period dramas is gradually increasing. I'm very happy to think that continuing this for so long might be having some kind of effect."
"Muyōan Inkyo Shugyō 10" will air on BS Asahi on September 22nd at 7 PM.
