The official promotional video for "Cyborg 009 Nemesis," a new anime based on Shotaro Ishinomori's popular manga "Cyborg 009," has been released on YouTube. The new anime features Nemesis, led by N009/Graviton, who are formed to directly challenge the Zero-Zero Number Cyborgs, including 009/Joe Shimamura, who have been secretly supporting world peace, and to change the world with a new power. The PV depicts a fierce 9-on-9 battle between the Zero-Zero Number Cyborgs and Nemesis.
In the 9-on-9 battle, Graviton's overwhelming strength, as he manipulates gravity to corner Joe, is particularly striking in the footage. "We are a necessary evil. Sacrifice is unavoidable for the sake of justice," Graviton says, delivering his own version of justice in a ruthless manner. Joe confronts him with his life on the line, saying, "If you intend to kill, I will protect you with all my might."
It was also announced that the music unit Sukima Switch will be in charge of the ending theme song, "Climax." Sukima Switch commented, "We are very happy to be involved with the 'Cyborg 009' series, which has been loved across generations! The battle scenes, in which the unique cyborg warriors fight for their own ideals and sense of justice, are not to be missed. We hope you will enjoy our music along with the anime 'Cyborg 009 Nemesis'!"
The opening theme song will be performed by Kyoko, who is also active in "BARBEE BOYS," and she will sing "Dare ga Tame ni," which is also known as the theme song for the 1979 TV anime "Cyborg 009."
A preview screening of the new anime will be held on July 18th at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo). Yuki Kaji, Yuichi Nakamura, who plays N009/Graviton, and Saori Hayami, who plays 003/Françoise Arnoul, will be in attendance.
"Cyborg 009 Nemesis" tells the story of the Zero-Zero number cyborgs, who have protected humanity from various enemies threatening peace for over half a century since their creation. However, a group of nine cyborgs called Nemesis appear before them, believing that the 009s alone cannot lead the world to peace. The series consists of three episodes and will be released all at once on July 19th.
"Cyborg 009" is a manga that depicts the story of nine warriors, including Joe Shimamura, who are turned into cyborgs by the evil organization Black Ghost, and their fight for justice alongside Dr. Gilmore. The series began serialization in "Weekly Shonen King" (Shonen Gahosha) in 1964 and was also serialized in "Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) and "Monthly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha). In 2024, it celebrated its 60th anniversary, and in the same year, it was adapted into a stage play for the first time and remade as a vertical-reading full-color comic.
