It has been announced that "The Last Blossom," an original animated feature film that reunites director Mugen Kinoshita, who worked on the TV anime "Odd Taxi," and manga artist and screenwriter Kazuya Koremoto, will be exclusively available for unlimited streaming on Netflix starting August 29th.
It was also announced that the Blu-ray Disc (BD) and DVD will be released on August 26th. The tall case features an illustration drawn by director Kinoshita, and the storage case features an illustration drawn by illustrator kigimura. Bonus features include a postcard set of early concept art by concept artist Michinoku Touge, and a miniature version of the key item, "Akutsu's painting." Bonus features include staff commentary by the main staff, making-of footage of recordings by Kaoru Kobayashi and Pierre Taki, and the premiere stage greetings. The regular edition pamphlet that was sold in theaters is now on sale at the shopping site "Canime".
"The Last Blossom" tells the story of Minoru Akutsu, an elderly man serving a life sentence who is about to die alone in his cell, when a mysterious The Last Blossom that can speak human language speaks to him and says, "You've had a miserable life, haven't you?" Through their conversation, he begins to reflect on his past. He confronts his past life and tries to reclaim what he has lost. It was released in October 2025.
