NHK will broadcast a live program titled "Live Broadcast: Sagrada Familia - Finally Complete! World Premiere of the Tower of Jesus" from inside the Sagrada Familia, a World Heritage site designed by the genius architect Antoni Gaudí and whose construction has been ongoing for over 140 years. The program will air on NHK General on June 11th at 10 p.m.
NHK is the only organization in the world to have closely followed the construction site of the Sagrada Familia for an extended period, documenting the process. The main tower, the "Tower of Jesus," has finally been completed. On June 10th, the anniversary of Gaudí's death, Pope Leo XIV visited, and a mass and ceremony were held to commemorate the completion of the tower and the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's death.
The program will broadcast live from inside the cathedral on the 11th, when the excitement was still high, as a solemn mass was held. We will hear from Jordi Fauri, the chief architect who has dedicated his life to the construction of the tower, about his thoughts. Furthermore, with special permission, we will take a panoramic view of Barcelona from the roof of the cathedral, 54 meters above the ground. We will also show plenty of video footage of the mass and ceremony that took place the previous day.
