The latest installment in the "Spider-Man" series, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" (directed by Destin Daniel Cretton), starring British actor Tom Holland, will be released simultaneously in Japan and the US on July 31st. Four new stills from the film were released on June 11th. The images hint at an "unusual change" that will befall Spider-Man at the start of a new chapter, as well as the "awakening of a new power."
The latest installment in the series, the first in five years, is a new chapter following the trilogy starring Holland: "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017), "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019), and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021).
Four years after the events of the previous film, "Spider-Man: No Way Home," Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man (Holland), has made the ultimate sacrifice to keep his loved ones safe from danger by erasing all memories of him from people around the world. He continues to protect New York City alone as the "friendly neighborhood" Spider-Man. One day, his DNA mutates, causing physical changes that threaten his life, and inexplicable crimes begin to occur frequently in the city. The threat and trials of an "invisible enemy" loom...
The newly released still image captures Peter surrounded by spiderwebs, his face showing a bewildered expression as he undergoes a physical transformation that seems to awaken a "great power." Is the change that has befallen Peter, who looks as if trying to ascertain what has happened to him, the awakening of a "great power"? At the same time as the changes that are befalling Peter, a series of inexplicable crimes begin to occur in the streets of New York.
Even without anyone knowing him, Spider-Man continues to stand up for those he cares about, donning a new suit and throwing himself into battle as the "friendly neighborhood" Spider-Man to protect the city of New York from the threat and trials of villains, the "invisible enemy." In addition to still images depicting a scene from such a battle, new stills have been released showing him fighting alongside the "anti-hero" Punisher, who crushes evil that cannot be judged by law with overwhelming violence. Is the man who unleashes merciless gunfire an ally of Spider-Man, and who is the enemy they are facing? The changing environment surrounding Spider-Man as he enters this new chapter is something to keep an eye on.
Furthermore, a scene featuring Peter and his ex-girlfriend MJ, who has forgotten about him, has also been released. Having graduated from college, MJ is living a fulfilling life in a world without Peter, sharing an apartment with Peter's former best friend, Ned. Will Peter, who has been forgotten by the person he wants to protect more than anyone, reveal his true identity to MJ again? We will also be watching to see how Peter's battle unfolds, as he vows, "Even if the world forgets me, I will protect the one I love and fight for her."
The story's full scope remains shrouded in mystery, encompassing not only the changes Peter undergoes, but also his relationship with Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the Hulk, whom he seeks help from, the villains who keep attacking, the identity of the "invisible enemy" posing an unprecedented threat, and the outcome of his reunion with his beloved MJ and best friend Ned. Anticipation is high for further updates.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will be released nationwide on July 31st, distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
