NHK's popular variety show "Bura Tamori" (NHK General), in which entertainer Tamori visits various towns, will air an episode titled "Kyoto's Byodo-in Phoenix Hall ▼ The Secret of the Beauty of the National Treasure Engraved on the 10-Yen Coin" on June 6th at 7:30 PM. The setting for the journey is Kyoto's Byodo-in Phoenix Hall. Why was this building, which prioritizes visuals above all else, created...?
This time, we delve into the secrets behind the beauty of the national treasure, Byodo-in Phoenix Hall. Why was such a visually-oriented building, prioritizing appearance over functionality, created? The key lies with the Fujiwara clan, the Heian-era aristocracy who reached the height of their power. What were their surprising motives...?
The group was given special permission to enter the temple. Tamori was thrilled by the lavishly glittering decorations and numerous national treasures. Afterwards, they took a cruise on the Uji River on a cormorant fishing boat and visited the World Heritage site, Ujigami Shrine. They also got to experience the world of paradise, which is dynamically expressed by skillfully utilizing the terrain.
Tamori's travel partner will be NHK announcer Mana Sato, and the narration will be provided by singer-songwriter Aimyon.
