Actress Kasumi Arimura attended the Japan premiere of her starring film "Magical Secret Tour" (directed by Chihiro Amano, opening June 19) held in Tokyo on June 2.
In this film, Arimura plays a character who, along with Haru Kuroki and Sara Minami, becomes involved in gold smuggling and becomes a criminal. In keeping with the film's theme, Arimura and the others made their entrance from a set resembling a gold bar. As part of the "dress code" for all attendees to wear something gold, Arimura was wearing gold sandals.
Arimura said that during the filming of this movie, she "fell" while running at full speed through the streets of Singapore. She said she wasn't injured and only suffered a few scrapes, but added, "Suddenly sprinting at full speed after turning 30 is dangerous." When asked, "Didn't you do any warm-up exercises?", she gave a wry smile and replied, "I thought I could do it..."
The film is an original work inspired by a real-life incident in 2017 when housewives were arrested at Chubu Centrair International Airport for "gold smuggling." The story follows three women who seem far removed from crime but meet by chance and deepen their bond as companions through gold smuggling. The film was shot on large scale in Singapore.
Arimura takes on the role of a mother for the first time and co-stars with Kuroki and Minami for the first time. Arimura plays Wakako, a mother of two who suddenly discovers her husband's embezzlement and debts. She is a diligent mother who is also a criminal who boldly carries out gold smuggling. Kuroki and Minami play accomplices who meet by chance in Singapore and smuggle gold together. Kuroki plays Kiyoe, a researcher burdened with 6 million yen in debt to repay her student loans, while Minami plays Mayu, an unmarried pregnant woman with no savings. This is Minami's first time playing a pregnant woman.
In addition, Akihisa Shiono plays Takashi, the husband of Wakako (Arimura), who is fired from the company for embezzling funds, and Yuzu Aoki, a fellow researcher who is promised a bright future, surpassing her senior colleague Kiyoe (Kuroki). In addition to Arimura, Minami, Shiono, Aoki, and director Amano attended the Japan premiere.
