Talent Ami Tokito appeared at the Kodansha gravure contest "Miss Magazine 2027" top 20 unveiling event held in Tokyo on June 2nd. When a photo of Tokito in a swimsuit from the cover of "Young Magazine," which she graced when she won the Tsunku♂ Award at "Miss Magazine 2005," was shown, she smiled shyly.
Reflecting on the 21 years since receiving the award, she said, "It went by in a flash. My life changed dramatically in 2005." She also offered encouragement to the 20 people selected for the top 20, saying, "I think your lives will change starting today. I hope you will give it your all."
Regarding her own photo shoot, she smiled and said, "If I hadn't been chosen as Miss Magazine, I might not have done swimsuit shoots. I think both swimsuits and glasses have become my strengths. I'm really grateful!"
Miss Magazine, which will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2027, is being revamped with the aim of becoming "Japan's most helpful" beauty pageant. It will support women who aspire to enter the entertainment industry, helping them to succeed in various fields such as acting, talent work, and modeling, and to help them reach a "turning point in their lives."
For Miss Magazine 2027, the judging process will be expanded from the previous Best 16 to a Best 20. The judging will proceed in stages, from Best 10 to finalists, and the judging period will be extended. Additional judging criteria will be added to allow judges to get to know the contestants' inner selves. In addition to the traditional Grand Prix, a Runner-up prize will be created, and winners of each award will be guaranteed the release of a photobook. The prize money will be 1 million yen for the Grand Prix winner and 500,000 yen for the Runner-up. After winning, the contestants will receive support to learn various skills, such as how to use social media, with the aim of strengthening their talent. The Grand Prix winner will be announced on January 19, 2027. Eligibility is for unmarried women born between April 1, 2002 and March 1, 2010.
The Miss Magazine contest started in 1982, and in its early days, it produced notable figures such as Yuki Saito and Fumie Hosokawa, and later Shoko Nakagawa, Mayuko Iwasa, Mami Yamazaki, Kie Kitano, Kana Kurashina, Nanami Sakuraba, Yua Shinkawa, and Misa Eto. It was revived in 2018 after a hiatus of about seven years, and since its revival, winners of various awards, including Aika Sawaguchi, Rio Teramoto, Runa Toyoda, Hina Kikuchi, and Runa Ichinose, have been active in gravure modeling, dramas, theater, and commercials.
