An original short anime, "Narumi's Kaiju No. 8, " based on the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+", will be released in the fall of 2026. The story concept will be handled by Tsukasa Watanabe, the author of the spin-off " Kaiju No. 8 RELAX". The main visual has also been released, depicting Gen Narumi up in his captain's office playing video games, accompanied by the tagline "#TodayIsAlsoTheStrongest".
It was also announced that the event "Defense Force Bootcamp in Tachikawa" will be held on October 24th at Tachikawa Stage Garden (Tachikawa City, Tokyo). The cast members appearing will include Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino/ Kaiju No. 8 , Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro , Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa , Fairouz Ai as Kengo Kawanishi , Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina Hoshina, Yuki Shin as Iharu Furuhashi Furuhashi, Koki Uchiyama as Gen Narumi , and Hiroki Hiroki Yasumoto as Eiji Hasegawa.
"Kaiju No. 8" is a manga serialized on "Shonen Jump+" from July 2020 to July 2025. Set in Japan, a monster-filled country where monsters relentlessly invade everyday life, it depicts the adventures of the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, whose body is transformed into a monster by a mysterious creature. It also gained attention when it was selected as the grand prize winner in the web manga category of the "Next Manga Award 2021". The cumulative circulation of the comic books exceeds 19 million copies.
The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2024, and the second season aired from July to September 2025. It has also been announced that a "final season" of the anime is in production.
