A "pre-release" screening for "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" (directed by Jon Favreau, released simultaneously in Japan and the US on May 22), the first new theatrical film in the "Star Wars" (SW) series in seven years, was held at 7 p.m. on May 21 in seven theaters across five cities nationwide.
At TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills (Minato-ku, Tokyo), Shuhei Sakaguchi, the Japanese voice actor for the protagonist Mandalorian, and Kazuma Kawamura of the dance and vocal group "THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE," a huge Star Wars fan, attended a pre-screening event and shared their memories of Star Wars. They also counted down to the earliest screening with fans dressed in Star Wars cosplay and carrying Star Wars merchandise, and the moment the count reached zero, they shouted the catchphrase for the new film, "Our Way!", creating a lively atmosphere.
Sakaguchi, who will continue to voice the main character Mandalorian in the Japanese dubbed version, said that he and "Star Wars," which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, are "classmates," and spoke about the highlights of the latest film, saying, "Above all, Glogoo is simply adorable. There's no doubt about that." Kawamura, a true fan who grew up watching Star Wars from the age of two thanks to her father's influence, said that she might "go see the latest film with my dad."
The film "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" is set after the death of Darth Vader and the collapse of the Empire. In a lawless galaxy, the Mandalorian, a solitary bounty hunter who perfectly completes any job while adhering to strict rules under the motto "Our Way," gradually develops a father-son-like bond with Glogo, the mischievous and gluttonous "The Child," who possesses immense Force powers, during their journey together. "He'll outlive me. I can't protect him forever..." The story follows these two bound by an unbreakable bond as they confront destiny to prevent a new war aimed at the resurgence of the Empire.
