Twelve still images from "Kingdom: The Soulful Showdown," the fifth film in the "Kingdom" series starring Kento Yamazaki(directed by Shinsuke Sato, opening July 17), were released on May 21.
This film, a live-action adaptation of the original manga's most popular episode, the "Coalition Army Arc," depicts a great battle for the very survival of the Qin state when it is attacked by the "Coalition Army," formed by the six states of Chu, Zhao, Wei, Han, Yan, and Qi.
The newly released stills capture scenes such as Shin (Yamazaki) riding forward on his horse, King Ei Sei (Ryo Yoshizawa Ryo) watching over the fate of his country from the palace, Karyo Ten (Kanna Hashimoto) supporting the Hishin Unit as a strategist and fighting alongside them, the generals of Qin gathered in the palace, his arch-enemy Riboku (Shun Oguri Shun), and Shin gripping the spear entrusted to him along with the hopes of General Ouki, imprinting its weight on his heart.
The film "Kingdom" is based on the historical manga by Yasuhisa Hara (Shueisha), set in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of ancient China. It depicts the exploits of Shin, who aims to become a great general, and Ei Sei, who would later become the First Emperor of Qin. Kento Yamazaki plays Shin, and Ryo Yoshizawa plays Ei Sei. The series has been released in 2019 ("Kingdom"), 2022 ("Kingdom 2: To the Faraway Land"), 2023 ("Kingdom: Flame of Destiny"), and 2024 ("Kingdom: The Return of the Great General"). The series has attracted approximately 17.34 million viewers and grossed over 24.5 billion yen at the box office.
