Actor Jiro Sato (57) appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on May 20th, where he talked about quitting the company he joined right after graduating from university after only one day.
Sato decided he wanted to become an actor when he was in the fourth grade of elementary school, but he didn't have the courage to pursue acting, so after graduating from university he got a job at Recruit Co., Ltd. However, he confessed that he quit after only one day.
"There's a dormitory for single men in a place called Mukogaoka-Yuen, and I leave all my belongings there and take the local train in the middle of the night back to Aichi Prefecture."
When Kuroyanagi asked Sato, "Why?", Sato revealed that as soon as he joined the company, "It was obvious, but I realized, 'Oh, so this is it, I'm really giving up on being an actor,' and I couldn't sit still..." indicating that he was driven by his desire to become an actor.
Later, after Sato began working as an actor, he received an offer from Recruit's company magazine, "Entre." "The proposal stated, 'This magazine supports people who quit their jobs midway to start their own businesses. I hear that Mr. Sato has experience quitting a certain company after only one day,'" he recalled.
The offer came after they knew that Sato had left Recruit. Sato remarked thoughtfully, "What a generous company!"
