NHK's popular nature program "Darwin's Coming!" (NHK General) will air "A Big Investigation with Sakana-kun! The Turbulent Tokyo Bay" on May 10th at 7:30 p.m. What exactly is happening in Tokyo Bay, where the environment has completely changed and southern species have moved in, transforming it? Join Sakana-kun as he explores the front lines of this rapidly changing ocean.
Colorful creatures teem with coral reefs covering the seabed. The waters off Kyonan Town in Chiba Prefecture, on the outer shore of Tokyo Bay, offer a tropical landscape. Now, due to rising water temperatures caused by global warming, creatures that drift in from the south are overwintering and establishing themselves in the area.
Clownfish breed among sea anemones, and the southern species of octopus, the Wamon octopus, is expanding its territory, replacing the native common octopus. However, a sudden drop in water temperature can put these southern creatures in grave danger. Join Sakana-kun as he closely follows the dramatic life-and-death struggles unfolding in the turbulent Tokyo Bay.
