The NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS (Toyotomi Brothers!)", starring actor Taiga Nakano (NHK General, Sundays at 8 PM, etc.), will feature Ishida Mitsunari, played by Leo Matsumoto, starting with episode 18, "Hashiba Brothers!", airing on May 10th. This was announced on the drama's official social media accounts.
"BROTHERS IN ARMS (Toyotomi Brothers!)" is the 65th Taiga drama. With Toyotomi Hidenaga (Koichiro) as the protagonist, it depicts the miraculous feat of unifying Japan together with his older brother Hideyoshi (Tokichiro) through their strong bond, a success story of dreams and hopes.
The script is written by Hiroyuki Yatsu, known for his work on "Hanzawa Naoki" (TBS) and the Asadora drama series "Ochoyan." The music is composed by Hideaki Kimura, and the narration is provided by actress Sakura Ando.
Ishida Mitsunari was a daimyo born in Omi Province who was highly favored by Hideyoshi. He distinguished himself in the Battle of Shizugatake, fought between Hideyoshi and Shibata Katsuie, and also demonstrated his numerical prowess in land surveys such as the Taiko Survey. In Hideyoshi's later years, at the young age of 25, he became one of the Five Commissioners and played a central role in the Toyotomi regime. He was "Hideyoshi's loyal retainer who supported the Toyotomi regime."
Matsumoto, who plays Mitsunari, was born on April 27, 2000, and is 26 years old and from Ehime Prefecture. In the 2024 second half of the NHK Asadora drama series "Omusubi," he played "Kazami-senpai," the calligraphy club member whom the heroine initially admired. This will be his first appearance in a Taiga drama.
