In the 25th episode (aired May 1st) of the NHK Asadora drama series "Kaze,Kaoru " (NHK General, Monday-Saturday, 8:00 AM, etc.), Ai Mikami and Juri Kosaka , what scene captivated viewers the most? We examined the minute-by-minute changes in "attention level" (according to REVISIO, Kanto region, preliminary figures), which indicates the percentage of viewers glued to the screen, and found that the peak was 76.4% at 8:13 AM.
" Kaze,Kaoru" is based on the story of two trained nurses, Chika Ozeki and Masa Suzuki, who graduated from the same nursing school. The drama depicts how these two women struggle with how to interact with patients and doctors, clash with each other, grow as individuals, and eventually become the "ultimate buddy duo." Mikami plays Rin Ichinose, and Uesaka plays Naomi Oya.
◇Attention levels rise towards the end, reaching the high 70s.
In episode 25, Rin (Mikami) and Naomi (Uesaka), who were late for curfew, are ordered to clean the dormitory as punishment. Naomi stops cleaning midway through, and seeing this, Rin tries to get her to open up about what's on her mind. Finally, the day arrives to announce the results of the translation of Nightingale's book.
The "attention level," which indicates the percentage of viewers watching the screen intently, was somewhat low in the beginning, but gradually rose steadily despite some fluctuations, reaching the mid-70% range towards the end.
The data used is REVISIO's proprietary "Attention Level" index (Kanto region, preliminary figures), which surveys program and commercial viewing habits in 2,000 households in the Kanto region and 600 households in the Kansai region. A dedicated device equipped with a human recognition sensor constantly measures whether people are looking at the television screen, and calculates the percentage of people in front of the television who were paying close attention to the program.
◇Students understand each other through translation
The fifth week, "The Gathering," introduced the faces of the first class of students who gathered at the nursing school. The final episode, episode 25, depicted how the students, who had been constantly clashing, gradually warmed to each other and came to understand one another through translating Nightingale's books.
The 25th episode started with viewership in the 50% range. In the first half, it barely managed to reach the low 60% range, but at 8:08 AM, when Tome Kudo (Rin Harashima), who is from Aomori Prefecture, distributed apples sent from her family home, viewership jumped to 66.0%. Then, at 8:10 AM, it reached 73.2%, breaking into the 70% range for the first time that day, and remained in the 70% range until the ending.
Around 8:10 a.m., after Naomi has finished explaining the meaning of the word "observation," which appears many times in Nightingale's books, the oldest student, Izumi Kiyo (Akiko Kikuchi), thanks her, saying, "Thank you, Naomi." Rin also reports the translation she learned from Shimaken, which is "observation." It is a scene that conveys how the students, who had been divided into two groups and seemed to be at odds, have come to understand each other and their faces have become gentler.
◇The peak scene is when the students desperately try to stop Naomi from making an apple pie.
Then, after students report their translation results in the classroom, the completion rate peaks at 76.4% at 8:13 AM.
At night, perhaps relieved after finishing their translation work, the students, feeling a little hungry, try to eat apples, but there's only about half left for each of them. Naomi suggests that she make apple pie, but the students all stop her, saying, "Oh!" "Naomi-san!?" The scene that follows takes place around 8:13 AM.
"What do you mean?" Naomi asked, looking puzzled. "I think you couldn't make pies without an oven," Kiyo pointed out. "Really?" Naomi replied calmly. "You really shouldn't cook," Kiyo declared, and everyone present bowed deeply. "What?" Naomi said, looking displeased, but she was too naive to say anything in return, which was endearing. It was a scene of fun interaction between the students.
The show continued to attract high viewership at 76.2% around 8:14 AM. As the students, now completely at ease with each other, were discussing what kind of person the nursing teacher coming from Scotland would be, a foreign woman entered and admonished them in English, "Pull yourself together." She was presumably the nursing teacher. The episode ended on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers anticipating the sixth week. (Text by Hiroki Sasamoto/MANTANWEB)
