◇Release in four large formats, including IMAX, has been confirmed.
The latest installment, "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo," is set after the death of Darth Vader and the collapse of the Empire. In a lawless galaxy, the Mandalorian, a solitary bounty hunter who perfectly executes every job while adhering to strict rules under the motto "Our Way," receives a request from Colonel Ward, an officer of the New Republic, to prevent a new war aimed at restoring the Empire. Together with Glogo, a mischievous and gluttonous creature possessing immense Force powers, they face their destiny...
For its release in Japan, the film will be screened in 2D (with subtitles and dubbing), as well as in IMAX and premium large format (ScreenX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, MX4D, and ULTRA 4DX).
IMAX offers the ultimate visual experience, combining a screen significantly larger than a standard screen with high-definition images and high-performance sound. This film is the first in the "Star Wars" series to be produced as "Filmed For IMAX," allowing viewers to experience it on a unique aspect ratio and large screen that can only be seen in IMAX.
Other options include Dolby Cinema, which offers a three-dimensional sound experience and stunning color reproduction; 4DX/MX4D, an immersive theater system where seats move in sync with the scenes and special effects such as wind and mist stimulate the senses, allowing viewers to experience the action in the film; and ScreenX, which projects images onto the left and right walls in addition to the front screen, creating a 270° world that transcends the limits of vision and giving viewers the exhilarating feeling of being on the Razor Crest with the Mandalorian and Glogo. These are just some of the special environments that can only be enjoyed in a theater.
Along with this, four different poster visuals were unveiled. The IMAX version features the Mandalorian and Glogoo against an orange sky background, along with a flying X-wing. The Dolby Cinema version, with Glogoo peeking out from a small gap, captures the perspective from inside the Mandalorian's helmet, offering a glimpse into the emotional bond between father and son.
The 4DX version features the Mandalorian wielding two blasters, while Glogu, riding on his back, is depicted in a battle-ready stance with his hands raised as if using the Force, hinting at immersive action scenes. The ScreenX version features the Mandalorian standing proudly against a background of red and green neon lights, with Glogu on his back. Each poster visual, with its different color scheme and design, captures the strong bond between the Mandalorian and Glogu while offering various ways to enjoy the film.
Starting on the release date of May 22nd, a special poster (A3 size) will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to those who watch the film in premium large format (IMAX, ScreenX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, MX4D, ULTRA 4DX).
◇Grogoo uses the Force to expand the aspect ratio to IMAX.
A special video has also been released that further heightens anticipation for viewing the film in IMAX. The video opens with Glogo using the Force to expand the film's screen to an aspect ratio that can only be experienced in IMAX. The way the action scenes of the Mandalorian running across the battlefield gradually expand fills viewers with anticipation for the spectacular visual experience that awaits them in this film.
Next, the action elements, such as aerial and ground battles, are prominently featured, offering a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes production, including the large-scale sets.
Furthermore, the film includes an interview with director Favreau, who spoke about his dedication to filming this film, the first in the "Star Wars" series to be produced as "Filmed For IMAX," saying, "IMAX visuals have immense power and fill our entire field of vision. And the sound is not just something you hear, but something you feel. We pushed it to the next level by making the most of these elements and the massive sets."
Pedro Pascal, who plays the Mandalorian, also shared the film's appeal, saying, "In IMAX, this film is like an attraction. The many characters and the world will take the audience to the best movie experience of their lives." Sigourney Weaver, who plays Colonel Ward of the Rebel Alliance, also gave an interview where she recommended seeing the film in theaters, saying, "If you're going to travel to a galaxy far, far away, you have to experience it in a movie theater."
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the US theatrical release of the first film in the series, "Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV)." It has also been announced that "Star Wars: Starfighter," starring Ryan Gosling, will be released in the US in May 2027.
