It has been revealed that Yui Soma, a former member of the idol group AKB48, will play the main character Reze in " Chainsaw Man Chainsaw Man : The Stage - Reze Arc," a stage adaptation of the "Reze Arc" from Tatsuki Fujimoto 's popular manga "Chainsaw Man." A Teaser trailer featuring Denji (Naotake Tsuchiya) and Reze has been released. The trailer recreates all of the memorable scenes from the original manga using live-action location shooting, aiming to create a "fusion of worlds" that transcends the boundaries between reality and 2.5 dimensions.
Soma changed her name from "Yokoyama Yui" to "Soma Yui" in December of last year. She has been active in various stage productions, including playing Sailor Moon/Tsukino Usagi in "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" The Super Live, and Aoi no Ue in the stage production "Touken Touken Ranbu: Guden Mujun Genji Monogatari ~Re-run~".
Soma commented, "I am truly honored and very happy to be able to play the role of Reze. I will live each moment carefully and sincerely in order to express Reze's delicate emotional fluctuations, sadness, and profound charm. I will do my best to deliver a Reze that will remain in the hearts of everyone who watches."
Fumiya Matsuzaki, who is in charge of the script and direction, commented, "We wanted to create a play that would not disgrace the extraordinary manga ' Chainsaw Man.' A play that could be called the pinnacle of 2.5-dimensional theater. The cast and staff who gathered together strongly shared the same aspirations without even needing to put it into words. I am still grateful to everyone who was involved in the previous work. Three years have passed since the ball-kicking scene and the blackout. ' Chainsaw Man The Stage' is now moving on to the Reze arc. The banner remains the same, and we will bring together the knowledge and techniques that have evolved even further in the time that has passed, realizing everything from lyricism to absurdity as a play. I hope that this work will catch the eye of someone who loves both ' Chainsaw Man' and 'theater'."
The "Reze Arc" was released as a theatrical anime film on September 19, 2025, and has been a huge hit, grossing 10.74 billion yen and attracting over 7.06 million viewers in just 181 days. This will be the first time "Chainsaw Man" has been adapted for the stage since the first installment, "Chainsaw Man Man: The Stage," which ran in Tokyo and Kyoto from September to October 2023. The second installment, "Reze Arc," will be performed in Tokyo and Kyoto from July to August.
Following the first installment, Naotake Tsuchiya will reprise his role as Denji, Mizuki Umezu as Aki, Mahiru Koda as Power, and Aya Hirano as Makima. Matsuzaki will continue as scriptwriter and director, Shunsuke Wada as composer, and HIDALI as choreographer.
"Chainsaw Man" is a dark hero action series depicting the adventures of Denji, a boy who harbors a devil within him, as he works as a devil hunter. Part 1 was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from December 2018 to December 2020.
