An event for the TV anime "Yomi no Tsugai," based on the latest work by Hiromu Arakawa, known for popular manga such as "Fullmetal Alchemist," was held on March 29th at "AnimeJapan 2026," an event currently taking place at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo). Kensho Ono, who plays the main character Yul, Yume Miyamoto, who plays Asa, Yuichi Nakamura, who plays Della, and Misaki Kuno, who plays Gab-chan, appeared and spoke about the appeal of the work.
Nakamura commented on the setting of "Yomi no Tsugai," saying, "I think everyone wonders what goes on inside Arakawa-sensei's head, for example, why did she choose this historical setting? I think there must be a reason for that choice, so I'd like to ask her and find out." He continued, "There are so many strange things when you read it. Della's attire feels period, but she has a gun. I think the way these things are put together is really unique." Ono added, "There's a slight sense of incongruity."
Ono said that between being cast and the start of recording, "I read the original manga many times to expand my imagination, and I remember feeling excited and thrilled every time I read it because of Arakawa-sensei's worldview and the way the story unfolded." She added, "All the actors and staff members have a strong passion for this work, and I think that passion comes through in the broadcast. I hope everyone will enjoy it in front of their TVs."
"Yomi no Tsugai" is the story of Yuru and Asa, twins born as "night and day separated." It has been serialized in "Monthly Shonen Gangan" (Square Enix) since December 2021, and the comic series has sold over 6 million copies in total.
The TV anime will be produced by Square Enix, Aniplex, and Bones, the same companies that produced the "Fullmetal Alchemist" anime series that aired and was released from 2003 to 2011. Masahiro Ando for works such as "Sword of the Stranger" and "Blast of Tempest," will serve as director. It will air from 11:30 PM on April 4th on TOKYO MX, BS11, and other channels.
