It has been revealed that Kana Yoshimura's manga "MURCIELAGO," currently serialized in "Young Gangan" (Square Enix), will be adapted into an anime in 2027. The manga, a "potent" story about the ultimate buddy duo of Kuroko Kuremori, a former death row inmate and state-appointed executioner authorized by the government to hunt down heinous criminals, and Hinako Chozakura, who possesses extraordinary driving skills, as they confront the dark side of society, has gained popularity both domestically and internationally, with the series selling over 2.3 million copies worldwide. The anime will be directed by Takashi Naoya, known for the "Marriage Ring Story" series, and directed by Matsuo Asami, who has worked on direction for works such as "Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table" It will be produced by Satellite, known for the "Macross" series, and Staple Entertainment, known for "Marriage Ring Story."
The original author, Yoshimura, commented, "Murcielago has been unexpectedly chosen to be made into an anime. Having my work made into an anime was one of my biggest dreams ever since I chose to be a manga artist. Director Naoya said, "This was my first time participating in the role of director, so while respecting the director's authority, I took on the role of series composition, scenario, and storyboards. As for series composition, I focused on how to express the charm of this work in one season as we went through the script readings. I am grateful to Mr. Yoshimura for his warm support and valuable opinions during the script readings. My favorite characters are Manjuubito, also known as Hinako. I also really like Urara and Momoyama. But... Kuroko is cool, playful, and a great cook, so she's wonderful!"
Director Asami said, "I'm Asami, the director. I'm mainly in charge of on-set supervision. We're currently in the middle of voice recording, and Kuroko and Hinako's performances are so interesting that they surpass what we see in the animation, so I'm constantly being inspired and reflecting that in the drawings. In terms of the animation, we're supported by many animators, and we're aiming for the stylish crime action of the original work, pushing the boundaries of broadcast regulations with the erotic and grotesque elements. We're also putting a lot of effort into the car chases, and with the cooperation of Satellite's CG department, we plan to have some cool 3D action.
