It has been announced that the TV anime "Though I Am an Inept Villainess," based on the popular light novel by Satsuki Nakamura, will begin airing on TV Tokyo in July. The series was originally scheduled to air in April but was postponed. The first promotional video has been released on YouTube, giving viewers the first look at the anime's footage.
Additional cast members have also been announced, with Makoto Furukawa playing the role of Yong Makoto Furukawa, Yuichiro Umehara playing the role of Chen Yu, Hana Hishikawa playing the role of Lili, and Nikelai Faranaze playing the role of Huang Dongxue.
The story revolves around a royal harem "switch" scenario where two girls who are complete opposites—Huang Linglin, who is intelligent, beautiful, and loved by everyone, and known as "His Highness's Butterfly," and Zhu Huiyue, who has a strong inferiority complex and is hated by everyone for her despicable words and actions, are swapped.
The original work is a light novel published by Ichijinsha Novels (Ichijinsha), and a manga adaptation is currently being serialized in "Monthly Comic ZERO-SUM" (also published by Ichijinsha). It has gained popularity, winning the "Cmoa Everyone's Choice 2023 Electronic Comic Award" in the light novel category and being selected as No. 1 in the "BookLive Annual Ranking 2023" for female-oriented light novels. The series has sold over 4 million copies in total.
