"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Friday 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show in which "detectives" tackle viewers' bizarre requests and worries. On March 13, detective Yasushi Ishida investigated the case of "I want to find the father of a bald man among a horde of bald people." Film director Yukihiko Tsutsumi served as the special director, with assistant director Takanori Takeyama and secretary Saori Masuda also appearing.
The request came from a 26-year-old woman in Tokyo. Her father is bald. She has been living alone for three and a half years, but her family is close, so she often returns to her parents' house to drink with her father. The other day, she had a dream about her father. In the dream, she was surrounded by bald men on both sides. She couldn't make out their faces, and could only see the backs of their bald heads. Her father should be among them, but for some reason, she couldn't find him.
After having that dream, I suddenly became anxious about whether I would be able to tell which one was my father if I were to gather a group of bald people together. As a daughter, I absolutely wanted to find my father. I wanted someone to help me find out.
Even though it was just a dream, the woman was tormented by guilt for not being able to find her father. So, they gathered 35 bald people and began the experiment. The father and the participants hid their bodies and faces with cloaks and blindfolds, and got on the merry-go-round to get ready. As the merry-go-round started to turn, the woman began desperately searching for her father, with only the back of his head visible. For some reason, "The Bald Man's Search for His Father" is a moving story of the deep bond between father and daughter.
