"Drama 1 Week" brings you the latest drama news from the past week. On February 18, it was announced that Matsumoto Jun will make a guest appearance as Matsudaira Katamori, lord of the Aizu domain, in the drama "Chirururan: Shinsengumi Requiem," starring Yamada Yuki. Matsudaira Katamori, despite sensing the fate of the shogunate's demise, accepted the position of Kyoto protector and entrusted the maintenance of public order in Kyoto to Kondo Isami and Hijikata Toshizō. The ultimate duo, who survived the Sengoku period together, reunites in a setting set at the end of the Edo period. This series is a joint project between TBS, U-NEXT, and THE SEVEN, which also produced "Alice in Borderland." TBS will broadcast the special drama "Edo Youth Arc" on two consecutive nights on March 26th and 27th. U-NEXT will exclusively stream the drama series "Kyoto Decisive Battle Arc" after the broadcast on the 27th.
On the 18th, it was revealed that MISIA will be performing the theme song for the NHK evening drama "Radio Star" (General TV, Monday-Thursday 10:45 PM), starring Momoko Fukuchi, which begins airing on March 30th. The song is titled "A Boat Full of Happiness," with lyrics and music by singer Yumi Matsutoya. This is the first time MISIA and Matsutoya have collaborated on a song. On the 18th, it was announced that the popular anime "Time Agent," originally released on the Chinese video streaming service "bilibili," will be adapted into a live-action drama starring EXILE/FANTASTICS' Taiki Sato and Kanata Hongo. The original anime, "Time Agent -LINKCLICK-," is a huge hit, having achieved an astounding 850 million views worldwide on "bilibili." Photographers Toki (played by Sato) and Hikaru (played by Hongo) run the retro-style "Time Photo Studio." Toki has the ability to possess the photographer and travel back in time, while Hikaru also has the ability to sense what happened when the photo was taken. Since these two have heard rumors, they receive various requests from people who have heard of them.
On the 19th, it was revealed that Jiro Sato and Ai Hashimoto will be co-starring in the Fuji TV drama series "Fufu Betsushi Keiji" (Tuesdays, 9 PM), which will begin airing in April. This will be Sato's first time starring in a primetime drama series on a commercial TV station. The original story is planned and written by Yasushi Akimoto, written by Koichi Yajima (who also worked on the film "Six Lying College Students"), and directed by Ryo Tanaka (who also worked on "The Confidence Man JP"). The story is set at Numabukuro Police Station in Nakano Ward, Tokyo. Makoto Shimoda (Sato) and Asuka Suzuki (Hashimoto), both members of the Criminal Investigation Division, solve cases with their unparalleled teamwork. The two are actually married, but keep their relationship a secret from those around them. A series of murders will entangle the pair's pasts and families, leading to unpredictable developments in this thought-provoking mystery.
On the 19th, it was revealed that Yoshise Michiko will be appearing in the April TBS Sunday Theatre drama "GIFT" (Sundays at 9pm), starring Tsutsumi Shinichi. Yasuda Ken will also be appearing. Yasuda plays a former player and the ruthless and strict "master coach" who leads a powerful team that has been number one in Japan for three consecutive years, while Yoshise plays the role of a motherly "landlady" who struggles to lead a struggling weak team. They each play the head coach of a wheelchair rugby team. The drama is set in the parasport of wheelchair rugby, and tells the story of bonds and rebirth as the team discovers the importance of teammates and family by seriously challenging themselves mentally and physically while figuring out solutions to the difficult problems facing the weak team.
On the 20th, it was announced that the drama "The Cuckolded Husband with Three Months to Live," starring actor Jin Shirasu, will begin airing on April 24th in TV Asahi's "Friday Night Drama" slot (Fridays at 11:15 PM). Shirasu plays the protagonist, a kind-hearted, bottomless cheating husband, while Sakurai Hinako plays the heroine, a free-spirited wife who betrays her husband and indulges in an affair. This marks the first time the two have co-starred in a drama since "Janus no Kagami" (2019), approximately seven years ago. The drama is an adaptation of a vertically-read manga by webtoon studio "SORAJIMA," which has garnered over 100 million views in Japan. This revenge love suspense drama depicts a husband who has been given a prognosis for his life due to a malignant tumor. One day, he discovers his wife's affair and plunges into revenge to protect the future of his beloved son.
On the 20th, it was revealed that Kazue Fukiishi will be making a guest appearance in episode 6 (broadcast March 1st) of the TBS Sunday Theatre "Reboot" (Sundays at 9 PM), starring Ryohei Suzuki. This will be Fukiishi's first Sunday Theatre appearance in two years, since "Anti-Hero" (2024). She will play Hinako, the wife of Wataru Goroku (Yukiya Kitamura), who controls an underground organization. A mother of two children and a full-time housewife who cares for her family, does Hinako know that her husband, Goroku, is a renowned businessman, but is committing atrocities behind the scenes? Furthermore, a certain incident brings Hinako face-to-face with Gido (Suzuki), but how will she become involved in the case?
