The program "Junin Jyuuni-iro ~As Many Family Forms as There Are Houses~" (MBS, Saturday 5pm, Kansai local and other stations) hosted by talent Mika Mifune and actor Taro Suruga will feature a "futuristic single-story house" in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, where the view of the garden is given top priority.
The residents are a local couple and their three children. The house is a single-story building, 5 meters wide and 22 meters deep, and from above it looks like a giant spaceship. The house is surrounded by glass on all sides, 360 degrees, and a long corridor runs all the way around it. What's more, the roof is low, and the whole house appears to be slightly sunken into the ground.
To protect privacy from unwanted views from the outside, a box-shaped private room was placed in the center of the house. This is where the washroom, bathroom, children's room, and bedroom were located. Furthermore, by installing a skylight that runs through the entire house in the center of the roof, light reaches all the way into the box, eliminating the disadvantage of single-story houses, which tend to be dark in the center. It is said that you can feel the morning sun even in the bedroom inside the box.
Looking out the window is the garden that his grandmother and mother had lovingly cultivated. In fact, in order to be able to view this garden, they boldly dug the entire house 60 centimeters below ground level, so that the view would line up with the garden. After living in the house, the wife is pleased with the changes, saying, "It's so comfortable. I have more time to look outside, and I have more time." The husband is also pleased with the design of the house, saying, "At first I wondered, 'What's it like?' But once I lived in, the flow of movement was good and it was surprisingly easy to live in."
"Jyunin Jyuiro" is a program that visits homes all over Japan and introduces the residents' preferences and charms for their homes. After broadcast, it will be available on TVer for one week.
