Actor Yoshio Inoue (46) appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on February 19th. He recalled his first "setback" when he suddenly lost his voice at the end of last year.
It has been 25 years since he made his stage debut at the age of 20 while studying at Tokyo University of the Arts. The "Prince of the Musical World" had been active and energetic until late last year when he caught a cold and lost his voice.
He lost his voice before the opening day of the play, but after going to the hospital he managed to perform on the first day, but then he had to recuperate at home for six days. A stand-in actor played in his place for a total of eight performances over five days.
It just so happened that none of her family members were at home at the time, and only her pet dog was there. "As the evening approached, I started to feel anxious. I couldn't speak at all, and I felt increasingly gloomy. I was alone in the house, and I thought maybe I was the only person left in the world, and I got scared. I went outside to see if there was anyone there," she revealed.
I received encouragement from many people. Shinobu Otake encouraged me by saying, "It was a miracle that you were able to sing properly up until now," and I realized that what I had done up until then "was not something to be taken for granted."
"It was a tough experience, but it made me realise that nothing goes to waste as an actor. People often say that for actors, everything is an experience, and I realised that this is true."
