On February 17th, a huge hanging scroll by Tomioka Tessai, the "last literati painter," will be featured as a treasure on the variety show "Kaiun! Nandemo Kanteidan" (TV Tokyo, Tuesdays 8:54 PM), hosted by entertainer Imada Koji, freelance announcer Fukuzawa Akira, and former Sakurazaka46 member Sugai Yuuka.
The client's great-grandfather made his fortune in starch manufacturing and was known as the "Starch King of Northern Satsuma." He contributed to the local community by investing his personal fortune in building a new library and donating it to the city, and was named the city's first honorary citizen in recognition of his achievements.
This hanging scroll was purchased by my great-grandfather to display in the alcove when his house was built. It has been treasured as a family heirloom for generations, but... "The appraisal results are shocking!" has been predicted.
