Actress Mio Kudo will appear in the Fuji TV Monday 9pm drama "Yandoku!" starring Kanna Hashimoto. In the fifth episode, which will air on February 9th, she will play hospitalized patient Mayu Ohashi.
Kudo made her breakthrough in the role of Kiramei Pink/Oji Saya in the Super Sentai series "Mashin Sentai Kiramager" (TV Asahi, 2020-21), and has appeared in numerous dramas, including the TBS Sunday Theater series "TOKYO MER: Running Emergency Room."
Mayu, the character she plays in this film, suffers from cervical spondylosis and is being examined by orthopedic surgeon Iwasaki Sara (Ugaki Misato), but is also found to have symptoms of spinal arteriovenous malformation... She aspires to live the celebrity party life like Sara, and posts photos of her high-end brand bags on social media, but in reality she is struggling to make ends meet.
In episode 5, the protagonist, neurosurgeon Tagami Kotoha (played by Hashimoto), looks at Mayu's MRI scan and points out the possibility of another disease other than cervical spondylosis. Sara denies this, saying, "It has nothing to do with neurosurgery," but Kotoha urges her to take another MRI. Then, an abnormal blood vessel shadow is found around Mayu's spinal cord, raising the possibility of a spinal arteriovenous malformation. Sara then simply replies, "That's a neurosurgery case. I'll leave it to them." Kotoha explains to Mayu about her transfer to neurosurgery, but Mayu, who admires Sara, expresses her dissatisfaction.
Kudo commented on her role, "Mayu is a girl who is able to work hard to make her dreams come true, but she is also quite stubborn and ends up turning away from the true feelings she has deep down in her heart, running away. However, her feelings of love and admiration for Sara-sensei are overflowing, and I think that is an endearing part of her, so I tried to keep that in mind when playing the role."
She continued, "Mayu, who grew up in the countryside, dreams of a glamorous life in Tokyo and struggles every day on social media. She worries about the gap between her ideals and reality and can no longer see her true self. One day, she becomes ill and is troubled by this, when she meets Dr. Koonha, who confronts her head-on. Will Mayu be able to realize her true feelings?! Please be sure to tune in!"
