The fifth episode of the new TV anime adaptation of Motoei Shinzawa's comedy manga "High School! Kimengumi," which was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) in the 1980s, titled "The Arch-Enemy, Harumaki Don, Approaches! / Let's Play Somewhere in the Universe," will air on Fuji TV's anime slot "Noitamina" at 11:30 pm on February 6th. The TV anime adaptation of the work aired from 1985 to 1987, and this will be the first time it has been adapted into an anime in about 39 years.
In "The Approach of Arch-Rival, Harumaki Don!", Kimengumi and Yui come to Rei's house to play. Looking through Rei's childhood photo album, they notice a boy who is always next to Rei. It seems that he moved away after graduating from elementary school. Rei's fateful rival, Harumaki Don, joins the fray. In "Let's Play Somewhere in the Universe," Don transfers to Class 6. Don is a little jealous of Rei, who seems to be having fun in the neighboring Class 5. Meanwhile, on a stormy day, Don and Rei pick up a mysterious creature that resembles a horseshoe crab. The two name the creature Pochi and take it to high school.
The new anime will be directed by Kazuaki Seki, known for films such as "Kakkaku Shikajika" and "Beethoven Fabrication," and produced by Animation Studio Seven. The Kimengumi members, Rei Ido, will be played by Tomokazu Seki, Go Reikoshi, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Jin Oma, and Kikunosuke Toya, will play Dai Monohoshi.
The original series began as "3-nen Kimengumi" in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1980, and was renamed "High School! Kimengumi" in 1982 as the characters progressed to higher education. It's a slapstick school comedy featuring the Kimengumi, a group of five middle school students: Ichidou Rei, Reikoshi Go, Idese Kiyoshi, Oma Jin, and Monohoshi Dai, along with Kawa Yui and Uru Chie. The TV anime, which aired from 1985 to 1987, also gained popularity with its theme song, sung by Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi, a spin-off unit of the idol group Onyanko Club.
