"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Fridays at 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle bizarre requests and worries submitted by viewers. On June 26th, the ace detective investigated "a woman addicted to garlic." Director Amon Miyamoto made his first appearance as special director, with Yasushi Ishida as assistant director and Saori Masuda as secretary.
The request came from a 33-year-old woman from Hiroshima Prefecture. She has always loved garlic and has eaten it every day. In the morning, she puts garlic oil on her toast, at lunchtime she eats ramen with extra garlic, and at night she adds whole cloves of garlic to her stir-fries. Since her husband and children are at work and school, she sets aside her own portion and adds garlic powder or garlic paste to all of her meals.
However, I've recently started a new job, and it's a receptionist position, so I'm worried about causing trouble for customers and colleagues. Furthermore, I eat too much garlic, and not only does it cause bad breath, but even a little sweat makes my whole body smell like garlic.
So, in order to say goodbye to my beloved garlic, I wonder if I could work for a garlic farmer for a day. I want to be covered in garlic that I harvested myself, to be drowning in it! I want to feel the garlic with my whole body and seriously engage with it until I can think, "I've had enough garlic for a while."
The client, who showed up wearing a garlic T-shirt, immediately showed off a carry-on bag full of her "garlic collection." The woman's new job is as a receptionist at a swimming school. So, in order to get rid of the garlic smell from her body, she and the ace detective headed to the number one garlic farm in Osaka.
She immediately tried some grated garlic and was thrilled, exclaiming, "It's coming through my nose!" Harvesting was hard work under the scorching sun, but because it was her beloved garlic, she did it with ease. For her last supper, the table was laden with her favorite roasted garlic, ajillo, and peperoncino. With a full stomach, she said her final goodbyes to the garlic, surrounded by her family.
