In the 63rd episode (aired June 24th) of the NHK Asadora drama series "Kaze,Kaoru " (NHK General, Monday-Saturday, 8:00 AM, etc.), Ai Mikami and Juri Kosaka , what scene captivated viewers the most? We examined the minute-by-minute changes in "attention level" (according to REVISIO, Kanto region, preliminary figures), which indicates the percentage of viewers glued to the screen, and found that the peak was 71.8% at 8:14 AM.
" Kaze,Kaoru" is based on the story of two trained nurses, Chika Ozeki and Masa Suzuki, who graduated from the same nursing school. The drama depicts their struggles and clashes as they grow and eventually become the "ultimate buddy" duo. Mikami plays Rin Ichinose, and Uesaka plays Naomi Oya.
The data used is REVISIO's proprietary "Attention Level" index (Kanto region, preliminary figures), which surveys program and commercial viewing habits in 2,000 households in the Kanto region and 600 households in the Kansai region. A dedicated device equipped with a human recognition sensor constantly measures whether people are looking at the television screen, and calculates the percentage of people in front of the television who were paying close attention to the program.
◇Naomi gets into an argument with a visitor
In episode 63, Naomi (Uesaka) gets into an argument with Goro Ogawa (Shoma Kai), who comes to visit her in the hospital, over a gift. Meanwhile, nurse Tsuya (Ayaka Higashino) is having trouble keeping up with her nursing classes, and Rin (Mikami) tries her best to support her.
While there wasn't a single period of exceptionally high viewership throughout the day, it repeatedly reached the 70% range. Towards the end, it remained consistently at a high level of around 70%.
◇The practical training scenes towards the end consistently garnered around 70% of viewership.
The peak of attention on this day was at 8:14 AM, with a viewership rating of 71.8%. Towards the end of the day, it suddenly jumped up by about 9 points to 69.1% at 8:10 AM, and then came close to the 70% range at 69.0% at 8:11 AM. From 8:12 AM (70.8%) onwards, it recorded viewership ratings in the 70% range for three consecutive minutes, at 8:13 AM (70.3%) and 8:14 AM (71.8%), before peaking in the final 14 minutes.
The latter part of the program, starting at 8:10 a.m., which had kept the attention of so many viewers glued to the screen, was the scene where the nursing students' practical training finally began.
At around 8:10 a.m., students including Hide Doi (Akana Ikeda) arrive in the surgical ward. When nurse Fuyu Nagata (Tsubaki Nekozawa) greets them and asks, "So, where are the trainees...", Hide replies, "Not trainees, but trainees," which immediately annoys Fuyu and the other nurses. They are assigned to change a patient's bandages, and when Fuyu asks, "You can at least wrap a bandage, right?", Hide naturally replies, "Yes, I can," which is about as far as the 8:10 a.m. mark goes. It's the beginning of the practical training, a back-and-forth exchange of jabs between the nurses and the trainees. The viewer engagement rating jumps to 69.1%.
In the following hour, around 8:11 AM, Hide tries to change a female patient's bandage, but he can't do it no matter how many times he tries. Seeing his struggle, Fuyu takes over and changes the bandage for him. Attention levels drop slightly to 69.0%, but remain largely unchanged.
◇The exchange between Hide and Tsuya brought the ratings into the 70% range.
At 8:12 AM (70.8%), when the viewership rating entered the 70% range, nurse Tsuya, seeing Hide looking dejected in the nurses' station, was giving him a lesson on how to apply bandages. Fuyu and then Rin returned to the nurses' station midway through, but they watched over the two without saying anything.
Hide keeps saying "I see" to Tsuya's advice, to which Tsuya remarks, "'I see' isn't cute." To which Hide, as usual, gives an uncute reply, "Whether it's cute or not has nothing to do with nursing." Tsuya calmly says, "I think it does, though. You're nursing people, after all," to which Hide replies, "I see!" and the two exchange smiles. It was a memorable exchange that occurred around 8:12 AM.
At around 8:13 AM (70.3%), Hide, with Tsuya's guidance, manages to wrap a bandage, but is asked to demonstrate it again at the wake using Hide's own arm. Watching Tsuya's skillful work, Hide mutters, "That's fast." Tsuya replies, "It's my job," to which Hide replies, "It's your job, huh? I'm working," acknowledging Tsuya's abilities. "I want to make this my lifelong career, so I need to study more." These words from Tsuya also appear at around 8:13 AM.
◇Is the peak 14 minutes because Kiyo-san reappears?
After that, the call volume peaked around 8:14 a.m. (71.8%). Fuyu, who didn't go into the nurses' station but started walking down the corridor, asked Rin, who had followed her, "Does it look like Tsuya will become a nurse?" Rin replied, "Yes, I'm doing my best," to which Fuyu said, "I'm counting on you, doctor," and then left.
The scene shifts, and Izumi Kiyo (Kikuchi Akiko), who didn't become a nurse, arrives as Kudo Tome (Harashima Rin) is instructing the trainees. Viewers must have felt a sense of relief and warmth at Kiyo's smiling face as she waves to Tome. Perhaps it was Kiyo's smile at the end that sealed the show's already strong reception and brought it to its peak. (Text by Sasamoto Hiroki / MANTANWEB)
