It has been announced that the second season of the TV anime "SAKAMOTO DAYS," based on the popular manga by Kikunosuke Toya serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), will begin airing in January 2027. Cast information for characters who will play important roles in the second season has also been announced, revealing that Kikunosuke Totani will play Shu, a student who harbors strong animosity towards the Killers' Association and whom Sakamoto and Shin encounter after infiltrating the JCC (Japan Assassin Training Organization); Misa Watanabe will play Etsuko Satoda, the most senior teacher at the JCC; and Masahide Fuji will play Yotsumura, one of the founding members of ORDER.
A new visual depicting Sakamoto and Shin attempting an undercover investigation at JCC has been released, along with a teaser PV for the second season featuring Sakamoto disguised as his wife Aoi and infiltrating as a student teacher, and Shin gathering information within JCC while participating in classes as a student.
It was also announced that Daisuke Nakajima, who participated in the first season, will be directing the second season. He commented, "I am honored to be taking on the role of director. I am proud to be in charge of this hugely popular Jump series. I will do my best to capture the thrill of the stylish action and the unique aesthetics of the assassins drawn by Mr. Suzuki. Taking over from the first season, I am working with enthusiasm to express the charm, speed, and grand scenes of the original work, which is passionately loved by fans all over the world, in animation. To all the fans, and to everyone who will be watching, please look forward to the reopening of the second season!"
Totani, who plays the role of Shu, commented, "My first impression was that he's a really straightforward kid who cares deeply for his friends and family! On the other hand, I also felt that he's a kid who can be a little reckless because of the strength of his feelings. Participating in the voice recording for 'SAKAMOTO DAYS' has made me laugh at the fun and thrilled by the coolness of the characters in every episode, and it's been so much fun and amazing! Please look forward to Shu's appearance!"
Watanabe, who plays the role of Satoda Etsuko, said, "This was such a rewarding role that I felt like this is the kind of performance I've wanted to do as a voice actress all this time. At first, I had the image of Satoda as a somewhat domineering and cool character, but when I heard that she is a very kind teacher to her students, I changed my approach to the role. One memorable scene is when she gets teary-eyed and says, 'How earnest they are...' to the young people who are working hard to learn combat. I had just watched a graduation performance at a voice acting school and was moved to tears, so I felt like I was able to really connect with Ms. Satoda's feelings."
Fuji, who plays Yotsumura, commented, "After reading the original work, and after watching the script and footage and actually playing Yotsumura, my impression of him was that he is a man who doesn't show much emotion and the word 'nihilistic' suits him. However, what I reaffirmed as I played him was that he is a man of love. I am doing my best to play him in a way that everyone can enjoy. Please enjoy it."
"SAKAMOTO DAYS" tells the story of Taro Sakamoto, a former legendary hitman who runs a shop after retirement, and fights against assassins alongside his companions to protect his peaceful daily life with his beloved family. The series has gained popularity for its impressive battle scenes featuring unique characters. The comic books have sold over 15 million copies. The first season of the TV anime aired from January to March 2025, and the second season aired from July to September of the same year. A live-action film starring Ren Meguro of the popular group "Snow Man" was also released and became a hot topic.
