Junta Nakama of the popular group "WEST." attended a press conference in Tokyo on June 7th to celebrate the release of his book, "Junta Nakama's Full-Fulfilling Taiwan Guide" (Kodansha). Nakama, who spent six years in Taipei, Taiwan from the fourth grade of elementary school, has compiled a guide filled with the charms of Taiwan as he perceives them. At the press conference, he reflected on how he became an idol, a world he had no connection to during his time in Taiwan.
Nakama, who was living in Taipei at the time, auditioned for the Taiwanese junior idol group when KinKi Kids (now DOMOTO) held their first concert in Taiwan, and passed. This led to her joining her current agency. At the time, she didn't know much about idols and didn't know about KinKi Kids. Nevertheless, she recalls that after experiencing the stage, she thought, "There's such a fun job out there." After that, she had dance videos sent to her from Japan, watched them so many times that they wore out, and practiced by herself.
His biggest personal goal right now is to hold a WEST. concert in Taiwan. He said that WEST. fans are known within the agency for being passionate and giving loud cheers, and he shared his dream, saying, "The people of Taiwan are just like those (WEST. fans) in their passion. I think it's a place where people will really fall in love with WEST., so I want to perform a concert with my beloved members in this place that I love so much and that raised me."
