A key visual has been released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the start of broadcasting in October for the anime series "The Prince of Tennis," which is based on the popular tennis manga by Takeshi Konomi. The visual depicts the characters, including Ryoma Echizen, forming a circle.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary, various projects will be launched until the end of December 2027. As the first project, a special program featuring a star-studded cast of voice actors, "Anime 'The Prince of Tennis' Series 25th Anniversary SP Special," will be streamed on YouTube from 10 PM on July 19th. The cast includes Ryotaro Okiayu(Kunimitsu Tezuka), Yuki Kaida (Shusuke Fuji), Junichi Suwabe(Keigo Atobe), Sachiko Nagai (Seiichi Yukimura), and Tarusuke Shingaki (Eishiro Kite). Narumi Kawamoto (Takashi Kawamura) and Masaya Onosaka (Takeshi Momoshiro) will serve as MCs.
"The Prince of Tennis" was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 1999 to 2008. It depicted the rise of Ryoma Echizen, a tennis prodigy, in the Seishun Academy tennis club, and his growth through battles against rival schools. A new series, "The New Prince of Tennis," has been serialized in "Jump SQ." (Shueisha) since 2009.
The TV anime "The Prince of Tennis" aired from October 2001 to March 2005, and "The New Prince of Tennis" aired in 2012. A new full 3DCG theatrical anime film, "Ryoma! The Prince of Tennis: The New Theatrical Version" (directed by Hiroshi Koujina), was released in September 2021. Following "The New Prince of Tennis," "The New Prince of Tennis U-17 WORLD CUP" aired from July to September 2022, marking the first TV series in approximately 10 years. Its sequel, "The New Prince of Tennis U-17 WORLD CUP SEMIFINAL," aired from October to December 2024. A sequel to "SEMIFINAL," "The New Prince of Tennis U-17 WORLD CUP Final Member Deciding Match," will air in the fall of 2026.
