The latest animated film in the popular "Tom and Jerry" series, "Tom and Jerry: The Magic Compass of Time" (distributed by Clockworks), will be released on May 29th. A scene from the film, showcasing the lavish spectacle and the gigantic float of Tom, was released on May 18th.
"Tom and Jerry" is a slapstick comedy short animated series featuring the world's most famous cat, Tom, and mouse, Jerry, as they engage in all sorts of chases in each episode. It celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2025.
In the latest movie, Tom and Jerry are playing their usual game of chase in a museum when they accidentally activate an ancient artifact on display, the "Star Compass," and are transported through time in a dazzling light. They arrive in the "Golden City," a different world thousands of years in the past, inhabited by a phoenix sage and unique guardian beasts. There, they find themselves in danger from the evil Rat King, who seeks to conquer the world with the power of the compass. In order to return to their own time, Tom and Jerry call a temporary truce and embark on a grand adventure as a team in the face of an unprecedented crisis...and that's the story.
The newly released footage shows Tom and Jerry time-traveling to another world when the magic of the star compass is activated, and the residents, upon seeing Tom descend from the heavens like a god, enthusiastically worship him as the "Cat God."
In the golden city to which he had time-traveled, the Lantern Festival was about to begin, with glittering, magnificent floats parading through the streets. Tom enjoyed the welcoming feast with the Phoenix Sage who protected the city and his unique guardian beasts. Suddenly, an exceptionally large float was about to pass through the gate. It was a gigantic "Cat God float" modeled after Tom.
Prior application was required to parade through the capital, but when Tom saw the "Cat God's float" passing by without permission, he was overjoyed and ran off. The magnificent design made even the guardian beasts exclaim, "Wow! It's the Cat God's float!"
