The variety show "Potsun to Ikkenya" (ABC TV/TV Asahi Network, Sundays at 7:54 PM) uses satellite photos as a clue to search for isolated houses in remote areas. The May 17th episode will feature a house deep in the mountains of Kagoshima Prefecture, which the wife's childhood home has become the final residence of a loving couple who married after a dramatic romance.
In a village nestled at the foot of a mountain in Kagoshima Prefecture, surrounded by beautiful rural scenery, the search team inquired with locals and received the information, "There is indeed a house around here where an elderly couple, around 80 years old, live. We don't know the details, though." They were greeted at the end of a narrow, rough road by an 83-year-old husband and his 78-year-old wife.
The Japanese-style house, which is his wife's childhood home, is 98 years old. "It's about 3.5 kilometers to the elementary school in the village at the foot of the mountain. I walked the mountain path to school every day, so I was good at running," he laughs.
Her husband is from Yamagata Prefecture. For a time, he worked as an assistant and manager for celebrities. They got married 58 years ago after a romance straight out of a drama. After hearing how they met, guest Takashi Naito said, "I feel like I've just finished watching a happy movie." The program follows this loving couple as they live deep in the mountains.
The MC is George Tokoro, and the panelist is Osamu Hayashi. Guest Momoka Ito of the idol group AKB48 smiled and said, "I'm really close with the other members of AKB48 who are in the same generation as me, so I'd like to try living alone for a while. I'd like to deepen our bond with the members and experience both tears and laughter together!"
