It has been announced that the Blu-ray disc (BD) for "Super Princess Kaguya!", the first feature-length original anime directed by Chainsaw Man Yamashita, who has worked on the opening sequences for popular anime such as the first Jujutsu Kaisen of "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man," will be released on Getsuku. The jacket illustration, drawn by Hechima, who was in charge of the character design for Tsukuyomi, the virtual world in the story, has been revealed. The illustration features Kaguya and the other main characters gathered together.
The standard edition of the Blu-ray includes the theatrical release version of the main feature film, as well as all five types of welcome announcements that were shown weekly before the main feature in theaters. The limited edition is a three-disc set that adds a bonus CD and a bonus disc to the contents of the standard edition. The bonus CD includes all 11 songs with vocals from the film, plus a newly recorded duet version of the song "Reply (Kaguya & Iroha ver.)" by Kaguya and Sakayori Iroha as a bonus track. The bonus disc includes an edited version of the main feature film with some previously unreleased scenes added, character commentary in which Kaguya, Iroha, and Tsukimi Yachiyo talk about the highlights of the film, and the music video for "Reply (Kaguya & Iroha ver.)". A special box and special booklet are also included.
Director Yamashita commented, "The main feature footage included on Disc 2 (of the limited edition) is the version used during production, with a little bit of added depiction of Iroha! In order to further refine the content, the Netflix version (and theatrical version) was created after this version underwent final cutting. It also includes character commentary in which Kaguya, Iroha, and Yachiyo talk about 'Super Princess Kaguya!' 10 years later, and the moving song 'Reply' sung by Kaguya and Iroha!!"
"Super Princess Kaguya!" premiered as a Netflix movie on January 22nd, and due to its success, it began theatrical release on February 20th. It has become an exceptional hit for a film that was initially released on Netflix, grossing over 2 billion yen and attracting over 1.02 million viewers.
In this "music anime" inspired by the classic "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," 17-year-old high school girl Iroha Sakayori, who is juggling part-time jobs and schoolwork, encounters Kaguya, who emerges from a gaming-themed utility pole that glows in seven colors. The anime was produced by Studio Colorido, known for works such as "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromato, led by director Yamashita. A host of talented Vocaloid producers, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot, provided the music.
