NHK's historical entertainment program "Japan's Strongest Castles Special," which explores the allure of famous castles, will air "The Sense of Warlords Explodes! Castles Adorned with Beauty" on NHK General on May 7th at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature a number of the most beautiful castles created by the aesthetic sensibilities of warlords.
Castles were originally built as military fortresses. Yet, many castles possess a magnificent appearance. To uncover the secret behind this, we visit castles adorned with beauty.
The program thoroughly investigates the hidden messages of the Tokugawa shogunate at Nijo Castle and explores the samurai aesthetics hidden within the elegant national treasure keep of Hikone Castle. Furthermore, it introduces surprising anecdotes about warlords and castles, such as "Was the castle built by Nobunaga's descendants a giant garden?", "The convincing reason why Matsumoto Castle is covered in black walls", and "The stone walls of Kaga, a domain worth one million koku, are a work of modern art!"
