It was announced on May 2nd that a new anime project has begun for " The Quintessential Quintuplets ," an anime based on the popular romantic comedy manga by Negi Haruba . " The Quintessential Quintuplets[Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter]" will be made into a TV anime, and a new OVA (Original Video Animation) will be produced.
"The Quintessential Quintuplets[Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter]" is a complete sequel novel written by Hajime Asano under the full supervision of the original author, Haruba, depicting a continuation of the original story, and a manga adaptation is also in the works. The new OVA will animate new episodes from the original story that were not depicted in the previous anime series. It aims to deliver content that will satisfy fans who have been saying, "I wanted to see that scene!"
The announcement was made on May 2nd at the "The Quintessential Quintuplets SPECIAL EVENT 2026 in TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO" event held at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO (Koto Ward, Tokyo).
The event brought together the main cast members, including Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Fuutaro Uesugi, Kana Hanazawa as Ichika Nakano, Ayana Taketatsu as Nino Nakano, Miku Ito as Miku Nakano, Ayane Sakura as Yotsuba Nakano, and Inori Minase as Inori Minase Nakano. They enjoyed a "Quintuplets Game" in the talk and variety corner, and a new dramatic reading written by screenwriter Keiichiro Ochi, based on the picture book " The Quintessential Quintuplets Twins and Pancakes," was performed. In the live performance part, they sang 10 songs, including "Five Equal Smiles," "To Tomorrow," and "Unfading Feelings."
"The Quintessential Quintuplets" depicts the story of Futaro Uesugi, a poor high school student who becomes the tutor for five unique quintuplets on the verge of failing out of school, and his struggles to guide them to graduation. It was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha) from August 2017 to February 2020. The series has sold over 20 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from January to March 2019, and the second season, "The Quintessential Quintuplets," aired from January to March 2021. The animated film "The Quintessential Quintuplets" was released in May 2022 and was a hit, grossing approximately 2.24 billion yen and attracting approximately 1.7 million viewers. "The Quintessential Quintuplets," which adapted episodes from the original manga that had not been depicted in the anime series, was released in July 2023, and "The Quintessential Quintuplets*", based on an original concept and fully supervised by the original author Haruba, was screened in theaters in September 2024.
