The variety show "Potsun to Ikkenya" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sundays at 7:54 PM) searches for isolated houses in remote areas using satellite photos as clues. The May 3rd episode will focus on the life of a 36-year-old man who raises goats in the mountains of Ehime Prefecture. The guests will be former mixed martial artist Masato and freelance announcer Erina Iwata.
Satellite images reveal a single house and a vast, complexly divided plot of land in the mountains of Ehime Prefecture. When the search team showed the satellite images to residents in a nearby settlement, they received responses such as, "Isn't that where they grow young pine trees for gate pine?"
Once they reached the area beyond the mountain from the settlement, the road ahead was unpaved and impassable by car. The search party decided to proceed on foot. After climbing a steep slope and the view opened up, they spotted a herd of goats.
When the search team spoke to a 36-year-old man who raises goats, he told them he grazes them in this area. The search team followed him closely as he grazed his goats, interviewing him along the way. He used to be a salaryman in Tokyo, but quit his job at the age of 29 and started a goat farm with his wife. He said he cleared the overgrown and dilapidated land himself. The day the search team visited happened to be the goat birthing season. A goat went into labor in the middle of the interview. The team was able to witness this precious moment...
