The Japanese dubbed version of the popular Chinese animated film "Umbrella Girl" will be released sequentially from June 19th at Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro (Toshima Ward, Tokyo) and other theaters. Some theaters will also screen the subtitled version. It has also been announced that a star-studded cast of voice actors, including Manaka Iwami, Ayane Sakura, and Yuki Kaji, will be providing the Japanese dubbing. A trailer featuring the main characters, Qindai, Wanggui, and Moyang, and the main visual have been released.
The film was highly praised for its unique use of color, meticulous animation, and beautifully crafted world, and after its release in China, it was screened for a limited one-week run in Japan at the "Film Festival" in 2024. The story is a fantastical tale set in the Secret Treasure Pavilion, which is responsible for the preservation and restoration of handicrafts, and revolves around Qindai, a spirit residing in an umbrella, Wanggui, a spirit residing in a sword, and Moyang, a young restorer who can see spirits.
Ishimi, who plays the role of Chindai, commented, "Chindai is the spirit of a blue umbrella, and a very brave character. When I first received the materials, I was immediately captivated by the beauty of the visuals. I was nervous about putting my voice into such beautifully completed visuals, but I was very grateful to be in an environment where I could record in harmony with the work, feeling the visuals, sound, and the original voice and breathing. I did my best to express Chindai's earnestness, so please look forward to its release!"
Sakura, who plays the role of Wanggui, said, "The story, in which various intentions intertwine, is colored by breathtaking colors and visual beauty that are simply stunning, and time flies by just by looking at them. I was overwhelmed while recording. I hope you will experience this world on the big screen."
Yuki Kaji, who plays Moyan, said, "It's a gentle and beautiful world. I was deeply moved by the touching love story. The characters are depicted with cute designs, but the emotions swirling within them are very raw and profound. I tried to portray Moyan with a youthful yet calm voice so that he would feel like a reliable presence for the protagonist, Chindai, while also delicately adjusting the balance with softness so as not to spoil the overall atmosphere of the work. The visuals are woven with a soft texture like a watercolor painting, and the music is warm and poignant. Please experience a detox for your heart in the theater."
