The key visual for the TV anime "Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You," based on the manga by Jinushi currently serialized in the manga magazine "Big Gangan" (Square Enix), has been released. In addition to Sasaki and Tayama, the visual features characters such as Supermarket S manager Goto, veteran cashier Ohno, produce department chief Obata, cashier department chief Maezawa, and Suzuki, Sasaki's colleague and friend.
It was also announced that additional cast members will be joining the cast, including Toa Yukinari as Goto, the manager of Super S; Megumi Toyoguchi as Ohno, a veteran cashier; Rikuya Yasuda as Obata, the chief of the produce department; and Yoko Hikasa as Maezawa, the chief of the cashier department.
Yukinari commented, "I can finally tell everyone!! Yay! I've always loved the original work, and even my strange behavior during the audition is a good memory (?). Everyone involved has such immense love for the project that it's overflowing on set every time! It's truly amazing! I'm sorry I don't have the vocabulary to express it! Please! Please look forward to it!!!"
Toyoguchi said, "The recordings are so much fun every week, I can't stop grinning at the interactions between Sasaki and Tayama, I'm like 'Megumi who can't stop grinning behind the cast'. I hope everyone will join in the grinning in front of the TV (lol). Look forward to the broadcast!!"
Yasuda said, "I was the only one on set, where precious time was quietly flowing, screaming and sweating profusely. I am truly happy to be able to participate in such a wonderful project and such a wonderful cast. Please look forward to the broadcast!"

"Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You" is a popular manga series that began serialization on Jinushi's Twitter account (now X) in March 2022. The first chapter garnered approximately 280,000 likes, and it was selected as the number one web manga in the "Next Manga Award 2022." The comic books have sold over 3 million copies. The story follows Sasaki, a middle-aged man, and Tayama, a woman with somewhat eccentric clothing whom Sasaki meets at his regular supermarket, as they have casual conversations in the smoking area behind the supermarket.
The anime will be directed by Rihito Suzuki and Aoi Mori, and produced by Asahi Production. Takuya Sato will voice Sasaki, and Seina Hoshiki will voice Yamada/Tayama. It will be broadcast nationwide simultaneously on 28 TBS network stations every Thursday at 11:56 PM starting in July. It will be available for early streaming on ABEMA from 8:30 PM on June 3rd.
