The TV Asahi variety show "Japan Exploration Academic Variety: Tuesday's Yoshizumi Kotaro" (Tuesdays at 7pm) is hosted by Yoshizumi Ishihara and Kotaro Koizumi, and teaches the wonders of various famous places in Japan, such as World Heritage sites and hidden places. The two-hour special broadcast on March 10th will delve into the mysteries of Ginza, Tokyo.
Ginza, famous as one of Japan's most bustling shopping districts, has a mystery in that "there is no number 1 in many blocks, including 1-chome." The adventure begins in Ginza 1-chome, and in 4-chome, you will make a special infiltration into the rooftop area, which is normally off-limits, to get a close-up look at the clock tower, the symbol of Ginza.
We also visited a long-established club in Ginza 8-chome that has been in business for over 50 years. It is said that Yoshizumi's father, Shintaro Ishihara, as well as great figures and literary figures from various fields, such as Yasunari Kawabata and Osamu Tezuka, gathered there every night to drink at the legendary literary club. As we continued our adventure in Ginza all the way to 8-chome, we discovered why there is no address in Ginza called 1-chome 1-banchi.
In addition, the program will make a special infiltration into the "phantom station" on the Ginza Line's Shinbashi Station, which was only in use for about eight months. The surprising reason for the station's creation will be revealed.
